Spending Time
Allocating Assets 20190916 00118 2 minutes Have you ever thought about how you are going to spend the rest of your life? Or talked about how you spent the weekend? That’s an unusual use of “spend.” When we talk about “spending” it is usually in the context of money: to exchange one asset for another, or to use an asset to discharge a liability. We plan how to use the asset to best advantage – usually! Sometimes, of course, we also fritter away the asset and have little to see for it. And then there are those of whom we [...]
Lost
Where did it go? 20190816 00133 6 minutes It’s such a shame! Long ago, in the days of our parents and grandparents, life was not only simpler, (maybe,) but we still had a sense of wonder and excitement, about our lives. Christmas started on Christmas Eve. Thanksgiving, for most people, was a one day event. For the matriarch of the family it started at least the week before, and it may have extended over the whole weekend for those who travelled to join other family members at the family homestead. Similarly, July 4th and Easter were single days to anticipate, [...]
Another Visit to D.C.
Another Visit to D.C. Drawing the line, second round. Protesting 20190916 00110b 7-1/2 minutes. Well - my day was definitely different from what was expected! Yes, I did go to pay my fine. And yes, I returned. Thank you, Womens’ March, for the tickets. However – This time I was no longer a neophyte. I was experienced! Bin there, done that! I took a big brimmed hat, flip-flops but wore sneakers, and wore a light-weight cotton tunic, to cope with the sun, with plenty of cover-ups for the freezing bus ride back, and because my phone was AWOL, my computer [...]
The Macrame that is my Life
Macrame, musings, that's life, 20190912 00115d 3 minutes Will my life ever get sorted out? Will I ever get caught up? There are so many threads to the braid of my life and all should be working down evenly. But they’re not. Some threads are thick and bright, textured and exciting. Some are dull and background, dependable, unexciting but necessary. Others as light as gossamer, fragile, ephemeral. Can we ever communicate our feelings to any one else? Why do we concentrate on certain threads and not others? Why are some threads more important at one time while at others they [...]
Homesteading: Freezing
Freezing, freezers, DIY 20190912 00106g, Homesteading, just one more! 5 minutes. Winter vegetables can’t be preserved in the hot-water-bath process as they aren’t acid enough. Pickles and chutney are the only alternatives because the vinegar and sugar helps to sterilize them. Otherwise they have to be frozen, dried or pressure canned. Not having a pressure canner, and being scared of them, my next puzzlement entailed whether to acquire another freezer for the new harvest. With the current units full to bursting, if I really wanted to get the produce in season, to benefit from its cheapness, and to know what [...]
